What We Do
All About SpelHouse 91
SpelHouse 91 was formed to promote the traditions and values of Spelman College and Morehouse College. SpelHouse 91 intends to accomplish this by producing annual events at both colleges (example, having a homecoming tent, participating in college fairs, speaker series, internships, etc); mentoring students at Spelman and Morehouse; and raising scholarship money for students attending Spelman College and Morehouse College. Direct beneficiaries from these accomplishments will be students at Morehouse and Spelman College. SpelHouse 91 will achieve its purpose when there is an interest bearing scholarship fund of at least $100,000 dedicated exclusively towards students demonstrating a financial need to attend Spelman and/or Morehouse College.
How we will accomplish our goals
SpelHouse 91 will explore and may faclitate a variety of activities such as Fundraising Events (ie. Golf Tournament, Homecoming Tent, Speaker Series) for Students in Need – These activities will go towards scholarships for students at Spelman and Morehouse. Our only current activity includes a scholarship fundraiser at the Annual SpelHouse Homecoming event held on the campus of Morehouse College every October. SpelHouse 91 plans to do ongoing online giving campaigns that target Spelman and Morehouse graduates from the class of 1991. Secondary targets include corporate sponsors, Spelman/Morehouse graduates from years other than 1991, and the general public. SpelHouse 91 also plans to do an annual benefit golf tournament. Lastly, we will promote a Speaker Series at various locations highlighting accomplishments of the members of this organization.
Scholarships and Mentoring
SpelHouse 91 provides scholarship funds to students attending Spelman College and Morehouse College that demonstrate a financial need and are in good academic standing.
SpleHouse 91 is developing a mentoring program for students interested, currently enrolled, or are recent graduates of Spelman College and/or Morehouse College. Mentoring services may include the following: tutoring, employment support, continuing education support (ie. law school or medical school), providing care packages.
